More than 200,000 votes have been tallied thus far in Classical KDFC’s Local Vocals High School Sing-Off, and the competition is down to three finalists: Gunn High School Concert Choir from Palo Alto, Monte Vista High School Chamber Singers from Danville and San Ramon Valley High School Chamber Singers, also from Danville.

Until 11:59 p.m. PST on Monday, Dec. 7, electronic votes can be cast for the choir of your choice. Check out the video and audio recordings from the finalists at KDFC.com.

The winning choir will be announced on Dec. 8. That choir will appear live on the popular, nationally syndicated radio program From the Top with Host Christopher O’Riley, heard each week on KDFC.

The taping of From the Top will be at the Morris Dailey Auditorium at San Jose State University on Feb. 13, 2016, as part of a California Music Educators conference.

More than two dozen entries were submitted from high schools within Classical KDFC’s nine-county coverage area, which includes Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano and Sonoma counties. Initial online voting was held from Nov. 17 to Nov. 30 prior to the three finalists being named. It was this voting that attracted more than 200,000 votes.

KDFC’s Gail Eichenthal, the contest coordinator, said, “The level of talent of our Bay Area high school choirs is off the charts. This is a great way to show the rest of the country the the depth and breadth of our music programs.”
