Hurricane Sandy Commanding Officer to Speak at USC Symposium on Maritime Risks
WHAT: U.S. Coast Guard Atlantic Area Commander Vice Admiral Robert C. Parker, who commands all Coast Guard operations along the eastern seaboard, will give the keynote address at a forum bringing together researchers and top officials to discuss maritime risks. Parker led all Coast Guard rescue operations, including the rescue of the HMS Bounty crew off the coast of North Carolina during Hurricane Sandy, and reconstitution efforts in the wake of the storm in the Port of New York & New Jersey.

1:15 – 2:30 p.m. USC Professor Milind Tambe and U.S. Coast Guard Officials will disuss how Tambe’s work — pioneering the use of game theory and randomization to improve security — has been put to use in the Ports of New York and Boston and is being tested in the Ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach.
