Statement by Vice Provost for Student Affairs Ainsley Carry

October 15, 2013

From Ainsley Carry, vice provost for Student Affairs:

“Effective immediately as a result of the Greek community’s inconsistency this semester in promoting a safe and orderly social atmosphere through self-governance, the university is requiring strict compliance with our social events policy for the rest of the semester. Specifically, fraternities and sororities will not be permitted to hold social events on weekdays. Any weekend events will need to be registered and approved through the university’s review process. USC identification will be required for entrance to every event. Every chapter will be required to adhere to a strict guest list. For more information on social event requirements, see the Social Events policy in the SCampus online student guidebook at:

“With regard to the case of a student from Loyola Marymount University injured at an unregistered party, the university has placed the chapter where the injury occurred on immediate social probation. Social events at the chapter will be prohibited until this matter is resolved. Student Affairs is in communication with the chapter’s national office to coordinate the response and possible disciplinary action. The case will be submitted to USC’s Office of Student Judicial and Community Standards for adjudication. Our thoughts are with the LMU student and her family and we all wish her a speedy recovery.”
