The New York Times featured research by Jonathan Taplin of the USC Annenberg School and colleagues ranking 10 online ad networks and the amount of business they do with suspected piracy sites. Google and Yahoo were placed high on the list. Brands make sure that their ads never show up on porn sites, so were basically saying, why not do the same with piracy sites? Taplin said. A new report featuring the brands most frequently advertised on piracy sites will be released in mid-February, Taplin added.
Time ran a Q&A with Gerard Tellis of the USC Marshall School, author of the new book Unrelenting Innovation: How to Build a Culture for Market Dominance. Tellis said that in some respects, commercial success can become a curse. Success leads to lethargy and overconfidence, Tellis said. It leads a firm to protect the causes of its successmainly its current products. But nothing last forever.
Financial Times (U.K.) featured a mentoring program at the USC Marshall School, noting that students who arent responsive to their mentors or who show no interest will be removed from the program. The mentoring program is a critically important component of the MBA, said John Bertrand of the USC Marshall School. We are not interested in the person who just wants to use the relationship to get a job. The school targets Marshall alumni who are also senior executives for mentorship positions. The most important thing you get out of it is a sense of priority, said Ken Perlman, an executive at Kotter International who was a mentee while at the Marshall School and is now serving as a mentor.
