We Have a Winner: KUSC Announces Top Local Vocals Choir
December 5, 2013
Congratulations to the La Canada High School Chamber Singers, of La Canada Flintridge, CA, the winner of Classical KUSC’s Local Vocals High School Choir Sing-Off. More than 30,000 votes were tallied in the competition, including nearly 5,000 in the final round of voting.
Special recognition also goes to the two runners-up in the Sing-Off, the Mira Costa High School Vocal Ensemble of Manhattan Beach, CA, and the Tesoro High School Madrigals Choir of Las Flores, CA.
The competition was open to all high school choirs in Southern California. The choirs were invited to upload a video of a performance or rehearsal, and the best videos were posted on the kusc.org site. KUSC listeners then voted for their favorites, helping narrow the field to three. Listeners then voted again to select the winner.
Classical KUSC would like to thank all the choirs who participated in the Sing-Off. There is a tremendous amount of young talent in Southern California, and KUSC is proud to have worked with the National Public Radio program From The Top and the Pacific Symphony to bring this talent to a broad audience here at home and around the world.
Next stop for the La Canada High School Chamber Singers is the national broadcast of From the Top, to be taped Jan. 18 at the Renée and Henry Segerstrom Concert Hall in Costa Mesa, presented by the Pacific Symphony.
See and hear the La Canada singers perform “Sleep” by American composer Eric Whitacre here.
Information on tickets for the Jan. 18 taping can be found here.
