Additional Information

  • Research interests: The intersection of the web and mobile GIS with CyberGIS, the latter including advanced cyberinfrastructure. These technological trends include the use of “Big Data” and evolving geoprivacy concerns should now be considered core elements of the GI sciences. Swift is particularly interested in developing pedagogical innovations in the use of 3D and time-enabled geospatial technologies – GIS, Spatial Analysis, Spatial Modeling, Web & Mobile Application Development, VR, AR – in teaching, and in improving methods for teaching programming skills across GI science as a discipline.
  • Teaching: Swift has developed and taught novel online graduate courses in the Geographic Information Science and Technology Program (post-graduate certificate and M.S. degree), and residential Spatial Data Science (M.S. degree) and GeoDesign Program (B.S. degree). She has taught courses in human populations and natural hazards, principles of geographic information science, geospatial modeling and customization, concepts for spatial thinking, spatial databases, spatial computing, GIS programming and customization, web GIS, mobile GIS, geospatial technology project management, and changing our global infrastructure: an international collaborative GeoDesign studio.
