USC will host an unprecedented online event Friday, May 15, to toast the Class of 2020.
The virtual festivities kick off at 9 a.m. PDT when President Carol L. Folt and Provost Charles F. Zukoski begin the conferring of degrees. Celebrations hosted by each school will follow. The broadcast of the virtual conferring of degrees will replay at noon and 6 p.m. PDT.
“Though we will have a Commencement ceremony at a later time, we just can’t let this important moment go unrecognized,” Folt said. “We have to celebrate the degrees these graduates earned. This is our virtual hug until we can give them a real one.”
The USC website will serve as an interactive hub the entire day, featuring voices from the Trojan Family — graduates’ families, faculty, staff, alumni and students — honoring graduates through videos, photos, social streams and uploaded messages. The daylong event will include several performances — and a few surprises.
Students and their families are getting ready for this special day with commemorative backgrounds, banners and yard signs to create memories that will last a lifetime and bring the community together.
Graduates are already celebrating on social media, using the hashtags #USCGrad, #2020Trojan and #USCmemories.
This event was created after feedback from a survey of graduating students. The online celebration does not replace commencement, which will be held on a later date.
What: Virtual conferring of more than 19,500 degrees, including 2,000 doctorate degrees, and a daylong celebration of the Class of 2020.
