USC announces test-optional policy for 2021-2022 academic year

Standardized test scores will be optional for undergraduate students applying for the 2021-2022 academic year, USC officials announced.

“We recognize that this is a stressful and uncertain time for students who will soon be starting the application process,” said Timothy Brunold, Dean of Admission. “In an effort to alleviate some worry, USC is suspending its standardized testing requirement for one year.”

This means that prospective first-year students applying for fall 2021 can do so without submitting SAT or ACT scores — although these results can still be submitted if desired.

International applicants whose native language is not English must still demonstrate language proficiency by submitting TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo English Test or PTE Academic scores.

“We are dedicated to our holistic admission process that carefully considers the entirety of a prospective student’s work, their individual circumstances, and the specific context of their high school experiences,” Brunold said. “We know that these students’ potential is reflected in much more than test scores.”
