Variety featured the USC School of Cinematic Arts' strong showing in the Director's Guild of America's 2018 Student Film Awards for African American, Asian American, Latino and Women directors. Four USC student directors were among the winners in the competition's Western regional division.

The Los Angeles Times reported on reaction to the pending departure of a USC dean. Arizona Central mentioned USC in a ranking of private universities with high enrollment of international students.
